Kitesurf
To kitesurf (or to "kiteboard") is to engage in a wind-powered surface water sport. As it sounds, a surface water sport takes place atop a body of water. These commonly fall under the categories of either being towed, such as with water skiing, or upon a board, as with kitesurfing. Of course, there are other forms of surface sports.
Another name for this activity is "flysurfing." It is good to note that there is a subtle difference between the first terms given. Usually the term "kitesurfing" is used in reference to a style that is more involved with "wave-riding." "Kiteboarding," on the other hand, is more of a freestyle or wake-style method. Each of these particular styles is enhanced through the use of particular boards and particular kites.
To kitesurf, a rider may use board with or without bindings or foot straps. A large and kite which is capable of being controlled is used to propel the board across the water. As the sport increases in popularity, the innovations in the equipment design improve both safety and performance.
