Power Kites

Power kites are also known as traction kites. They are designed to provide significant pull for the user. For kitesurfing, all models will generally fall under two major categories. These categories are that of leading edge inflatables and that of foil kites.

Leading edge inflatable power kites may be more simply recognized by the term, "inflatables." Other terms include LEI kites or C-kites. They are so named because their design incorporates an inflatable plastic bladder. These are the most popular options of the two groups because they are quicker, more responsive, easy to relaunch, and more resilient.

Foil power kites are comprised primarily of fabric and have air pockets or cells. They have an advantage of not needing to have their bladders  manually inflated. In addition to this, they can cover about the same range of with as two traditional C-shape LEI kite sizes.
