Sport Kites

Sport kites are also known as stunt kites. As kite design has developed over the years, it has allowed for more control to be exerted by kitefliers. In turn, this has lead to the practice having turned into a sport.

The competitions emphasizing sport kites has been compared to figure skating. This is due to a few different factors. For instance, how well the flier performs compulsory figures is evaluated. At the same time, their ballet, or interpretation of the music, is also taken into consideration.

For these competitive events, sport kites may be flown individually as well as in pairs or groups. Most spectators view team flying as the most spectacular. During these events, team members perform figures and formations in choreographed unison. The kites may fly inches away from each other at certain points of the performance or work to maintain group rhythm and proportion.
