Stunt Kites

Stunt kites are the same thing as sport kites. They are most commonly seen in the "delta" shape, which is somewhat triangular. Generally, they will have two lines for control. However, some people will work with "quad-line" designs which offer extra control options.

Most commonly, stunt kites are created from either ripstop nylon or ripstop polyester material. The spars are generally created from a carbon fiber tubing. The light and non-stretchy material Spectra is braided to create the flying lines. This material stays slippery even when it has been wrapped many times.

Stunt kites are widely appreciated when viewed in competitions. These may be individual or group based and evaluate both technique and style. The American Kitefliers Association is the umbrella organization for such contests in the United States. Internationally, there is also a World Championship which takes place annually.
