Wind Kite
A wind kite is a light, material-covered frame meant to be flown in the air. It is tethered and controlled via the tension of the tether. The anchor point, be it a human, boat, or something else, can either remain in place or be moving during its use.
Generally, a wind kite can be expected to be heavier than air. However, it is possible for a kite to be lighter than the air. The helikite is an example of this. This relies upon helium in addition to wind for its stabilization.
The practice of flying a wind kite is engaged in for a variety of reasons. These include for recreation, art, and practical purposes. Power versions are flown in order to power such activities as kitesurfing or snowkiting. Stunt designs are used to create amazing aerial performances for competition as well as solely for entertainment.
